Welcome to my very first blog post!

I’ll start with a little introduction! My name is Becca Saunders, I’m a 22-year-old Canadian artist from Nova Scotia. I’m currently in my 4th year at NSCAD University, my degree focusing mainly on painting. I really love making abstract paintings about emotions and physical feelings and finding a way to represent them visually. I also really love illustration and all of the fun and whimsical stories that can be told through that medium!

I wanted to include a little blog section on my website as an informal place for you all to get to know me a little bit and stay up to date on what I’m doing in and out of the studio!

Since this is an introduction to me I thought I could give a little rapid fire of some of my favourite things recently:

To start, it is finally starting to feel like spring where I live so I have been obsessed with the sunshine and warm weather! Some songs I have been loving are Gloom by DJO, and Not Strong Enough by Boygenius I’ve had them on repeat for the past like 3 weeks. Crocheting! I started crocheting just over a year ago and I haven’t been able to stop since, I don’t see myself getting bored of it any time soon. One of my all time favourite movies is, From up on Poppy Hill, and more recently I have gotten into The Lord of the Rings series! Then lastly, as always my friends and family are my absolute favourite and make each day so unique and wonderful, it is a blessing to share this existence with them. <3

In the studio, I am working on my final project for the semester which is this large 5-foot by 5-foot circular painting. I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be alive and conscious and living in this universe, so this painting is sort of my way to explore that without getting too existential? The work-in-progress title is “do you know what it is to be alive?” Other then that the semester is coming to an end, so we will just have to look forward to what creative endeavours the summer holds!

For now I’m going to wrap up this post, but thank you so much for reading and taking the time to browse around my page! I hope to see you again soon and tell you about all of the shenanigans I get up to! 🙂
